About Us
In support of the Kalamazoo College mission to "prepare its graduates to better understand, live successfully within, and provide enlightened leadership to a richly diverse and increasingly complex world," the Center for Career and Professional Development creates meaningful connections to the world of work, empowering Kalamazoo College students to explore, identify and pursue their diverse interests, values and passions, and to develop a framework of skills, networks and knowledge for successful lifelong career planning and professional development.
How Can We Help?
CCPD has many programs and services to offer K students. Our programs relate to field experience opportunities, such as the Discovery Externship Program. Our services include résumé creation and revision, and cover letter composition. We are also here to help facilitate your career exploration process through appointments and drop-in career advising.
How Can You Be Involved?
CCPD conducts workshops ranging from résumé and cover letter creation to professional etiquette techniques. Recruiters also come to campus on a regular basis. To find the time and location of events, check out the Career Events Calendar.

K-Connect for Employers (Alumni Employers included)
The CCPD offers a series of career-related field experiences, including the nationally-recognized Discovery Externship Program and several types of internship opportunities through our Field Experience Program. K students connect with alumni living around the world and working in a wide variety of fields, job types, and organizations. Students work with alumni and sometimes even live in their homes; as a result, they build professional networks that are indispensable to living successfully in a complex world.
When K students think about the move from college to work or graduate study, they usually ask three types of questions:
- Who am I? What are my passions and skills?
- What kinds of careers best fit who I am as an individual and as a community member? How can I make a meaningful contribution through my work?
- How can I get there from here? What do I need to do to get ready?
These inquiries drive our approach. The staff of the Center for Career and Professional Development (CCPD) assists students one-on-one and in classrooms and workshops, helping students learn to ask the right questions and to identify compelling answers. Alumni and parents are valued partners in our work, sharing professional expertise and workplace opportunities.
