Discovery Externships are unpaid experiences that provide current first-year and sophomore students with the opportunity to live and go to work with Kalamazoo College alumni/parent hosts for one to four weeks during the summer. Externs explore a career interest area in a hands-on setting, while building lasting relationships with their alumni hosts.

Cara Marker Daily and her Discovery Externs - Summer 2015

"Love the time and love the students. They keep wanting to come back!!! We build relationships that last a life time." Cara Marker Daily '96, Psychology

During the externship, hosts provide students with the opportunity to observe their lives on a day-to-day basis, both on the job and outside of work. Students gain exposure to potential career paths and see the many-faceted life of a professional. Hosts reconnect with the vibrant intellects and passions that abound at K.

"We had a great time with Konah, both in our home and at KAMSC.  He worked well with the students and the other TA's. All in all, I think it was very positive for everyone, including my husband who acquired a ping pong opponent in the deal!" Lorri Walch '80, Biology
