Community Building Internships

In conjunction with the Center for Civic Engagement (CCE), the CCPD supports Community Building Internships (CBIs), relationship-based internships conducted with community partner organizations in the greater Kalamazoo area.

  • Each CBI comes with a $3,000 stipend, distributed at the start of the summer.
  • Students will be able to search K-Connect to find these “Internships with CCPD Stipends” when they are posted in January 2017.
    • K-Connect --> Job Search --> Keyword: "CBI"; Position Type: "Internship"
  • Students may only receive one stipend per internship site; students who return to the same site for a second summer are not eligible for a CCPD stipend.
  • Students hired for these internships must participate in the CCPD Internship Program. In addition to the CCPD-IP assignment requirements, there may be additional requirements as assigned by the CCE.
  • Because the CCE has a long history of relationship-based work in the greater Kalamazoo community, internships that are pre-selected in alignment with CCE priorities are the single way for students to conduct summer internships with local non-profit organizations within the CCPD Internship Program. In other words, internships with local non-profit organizations which are not designated as “CBI Summer 2017” in K-Connect are generally not eligible for the CCPD Internship Program or a CCPD Stipend. Inquiries should be directed to Alison Geist, Director of the CCE.
