Community Building Internships
The Community Building Internship Program began in the summer of 2007, as a partnership among the Center for Career Development, the Mary Jane Underwood Stryker Institute for Service-Learning, and various community organizations in Kalamazoo. Kalamazoo College students and their mentors build powerful partnerships that transform the community.

Benefits of Community Building Internships
There are many benefits to participating in a Community Building Internship, including:
- Guaranteed $1500 Field Experience Grant to help with expenses
- Free on-campus housing, if space is available
- Co-curricular transcript notation
- Mentor relationship with local Kalamazoo professionals
Requirements of Community Building Internships
To participate in Community Building Internships, a student must:
- Enroll in the Field Experience Internship Program online
- Participate in weekly structured reflection/debriefing meetings with Kalamazoo College staff
- Complete a final Reflective Assignment
- Participate in a symposium during Fall Quarter after the internship
- Abide by the terms of the Field Experience Internship Program
- Be available between the end of June and end of August to conduct the internship
