Joan put her BA (Virginia Tech) and MA (Yale University) in International Relations to work in Argentina with the human rights group founded by Nobel laureate Adolfo Pérez Esquivel, and on Capitol Hill with the Washington Office on Latin America.  She founded a national organization for interfaith families and coordinated Reading Together, Kalamazoo’s community reading program, before coming to Kalamazoo College in November 2007 to direct the new Guilds initiative.  When the Guilds became part of the Center for Career and Professional Development in February 2009, she was appointed director of the CCPD.  Her responsibilities include:

  • The Field Experience Program, which funds and supports student summer internships
  • Recruitment for non-profit and public service organizations
  • Campus student employment (together with Human Resources and Financial Aid)
  • Experiential education collaboration
  • Administration of the Justice & Peace Guild
Amy Auer

New to K this year, Amy is excited to assist students with their career and professional development. Amy serves as the liaison to the Business Guild and also specializes in students interested in careers in the arts. Amy’s most recent experience includes working at the Harvard Office of Career Services and prior to that as an On-Site Manager for Manpower, Inc. Amy earned a Master of Liberal Arts in Museum Studies from Harvard University and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.  Her responsibilities include:

  • Résumé and cover letter critiques
  • Interview preparation
  • Recruiting Programs for Corporate Jobs and Internships
  • Students interested in fields in the Arts
  • Administration of the Business Guild

Jackie has worked with Kalamazoo College for over 6 years, most recently working with the Center for Career & Professional Development. Through programs at the CCPD, she has worked to bring alumni and current students together to focus on career-related discussions. Jackie received her MA from Western Michigan University in counselor education/counseling psychology and a BA from Grand Valley State University. She assists students with the following:

  • Strong Interest Inventory Self Assessment Interpretation
  • First generation college student outreach

Rachel assists students with linking passions to professions through career exploration and assessment, résumé and cover letter writing, graduate school planning, and creating a professional online presence.  She also serves as a liaison to the Sustainability Guild. Rachel earned both a teaching degree and a Master of Arts in Counseling Education/Counseling Psychology at Western Michigan University.  Her responsibilities include:

Pam has been at Kalamazoo College for 24 years and at the Center for Career and Professional Development since 2002.  She coordinates the Discovery Externship Program, supervises student workers and supports K-Connect, the college's web-based referral system. Her responsibilities include:

Heather serves as the Resource Room Coordinator and receptionist for the Center for Career and Professional Development.  She has earned her BS in Accounting/Internal Auditing.  Prior to her appointment at the Center for Career and Professional Development she held the position of Office Coordinator for the enrichment programs at the Stryker Center.  Heather can assist you with the following:

  • General questions about Center for Career and Professional Development, their staff, resources, and programs
  • Scheduling appointments with Career Counselors
  • Scheduling appointments with Career Advisors
