How to Use Anchors

Looking to provide a shortcut to a specific location on your web page? Want to help someone "jump" straight to what they are looking for? Using anchors is a way you can do this.

An "anchor" functions similarly to a bookmark, because it helps you link back to that anchor location on your website. One common use is to put an anchor at the top of your page. Then, at the bottom of your page, you can link back to the top of the page (instead of requiring someone to scroll all the way back up).

Each of the following links is connected to an anchor inserted on this page:

Add an Anchor to a Page

  1. Edit the page you wish to place an anchor on.
  2. In text editor, click the location where you want to create an anchor, so that the cursor is blinking in that location.
  3. Click the anchor icon, which will open a new window.
    Text Editor: Anchor Focus
  4. Provide an "Anchor name," following the guidelines provided under the name field.
  5. Click OK to insert the anchor into your page.  You will see a small icon of an anchor to show that you have inserted an icon (does not appear on your live website).
  6. Click Save and Finish to submit your changes.

Good to Know

  • You can link to anchors on the same page or on another page within your Reason website. If you want to link to an anchor on the same you are currently editing, leave the "Page" on "(current page)."
  • All available anchors will display in the Anchor dropdown menu.
  • Anchors are not visible to anyone viewing your website.
