Senior Individualized Project

A one-unit SIP is a graduation requirement.  You may, however, choose to complete a two-unit or, for a teaching certification, a three-unit SIP.

SIPS may be completed over one quarter or two consecutive quarters, from the junior summer through the senior winter. They may take the form of an internship and write-up, creative work, research project, or an interdisciplinary or multimedia project.

Proposals for the SIP must be submitted by Friday of 6th week and approved by the 8th week of the spring quarter of the junior year.  Upon approval in 8th week, the English Department will assign SIP supervisors.

Proposals must be submitted to Babli Sinha, the SIP coordinator within the English Department.  Those on extended study abroad will also be held to this requirement.  Proposals can be submitted via email.

Once supervisors have been assigned, students must initiate a meeting before the end of the spring quarter.  At this time, you will need to complete a departmental SIP contract that establishes expectations and deadlines.  (For those doing a summer or summer-fall SIP, it will be especially important to set up clear deadlines and work expectations for the summer months.)

Students typically meet with their faculty advisors and/or with other students doing research, creative, or internship SIPs every other week (2,4,6,8,10).
