Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst (DAAD)

The DAAD/German Academic Exchange Service is a private, publicly funded, self-governing organization of higher education institutions in Germany. DAAD promotes international academic relations and cooperation by offering mobility programs primarily for students and faculty.

They offer many different kinds of grants to undergraduate students:

  • Undergraduate Scholarships
    • Scholarships for 4 to 10 months of study, thesis research or an internship for students in any academic field. 
  • RISE - Research Internships in Science and Engineering
    • Summertime internships with German doctoral students at universities and research institutions--no German required! The internship database opens between December and January. All applications have to be submitted by January 15 online.
  • University Summer Course Grant 
    • Summer courses at German universities to help build your language skills while studying anything from film to politics to engineering. (Dec. 1 deadline)
  • Study Scholarships for Foreign Graduates in the Field of Music
    • DAAD scholarships offer graduates the opportunity to continue their education in Germany with a postgraduate or continuing course of study. The scholarships also promote the exchange of experience and networking amongst colleagues. (Eligibility: Foreign applicants who have gained a first university degree in the field of Music at the latest by the time they commence their scholarship-supported study programme; if this is not possible, they should have at least exhausted all the training options available for their instrument.)
