Graduate Scholarships

These are scholarships and fellowships offered by national and international foundations. Most of them are exceedingly competitive and their applications require careful thought and preparation. Winning one, however, can open many doors for you in the future.

Grant Workshops

A grant-writing workshop is scheduled for Mon, May 12 at 7:00 PM in UL 308.  Students will learn how to prepare competitive applications using the Fulbright application as a model.  All students planning to apply for a Fulbright grant for 2015 should attend.  Sign up here.


MSU Libraries Grants Database:  A comprehensive database of grants for individual

NAFA:  National Association of Fellowships Advisors list of nationally prestigious scholarships and fellowships.

International students: NAFA list of scholarships and fellowships open to international students.

E4FC List:  Educators for Fair Consideration list of scholarships that don't require proof of U.S. citizenship or legal permanent residency.

Study Abroad Funding: Searchable database of scholarships, grants and fellowships for international study.

Undergraduate Scholarships

Davis Peace Projects: Ten-thousand dollar grants awarded for projects for peace (broadly defined) to be conducted Summer 2014. All students, as individuals or groups, are eligible to apply.  Campus deadline, January 21, 2014.

Harry S. Truman Scholarships: Awarded to juniors planning to attend graduate school in preparation for careers in government, education or other forms of public service. Campus deadline, January 21, 2014.

The Udall Scholarship: For sophomores or juniors who have outstanding potential and who study the environment and related fields.  OR for Native American and Alaska Native sophomores or juniors who have outstanding potential and are in fields related to health care or tribal public policy.  Campus deadline, February 10, 2014.

The Goldwater Scholarship: For mathematics and the sciences.  Campus deadline, January 6, 2014.

The German Study Abroad and Internship: For one semester of study at one of the UAS7 German Universities of Applied Sciences followed by a 6-month supervised internship. Deadline, February.

Fulbright UK Summer Institutes:  Three to six week summer academic and cultural programs at a number of UK institutions.  Must be a US citizen and have two years of undergraduate study remaining.  Deadline, March 2014.

Graduate Scholarships and Fellowships

British Marshall Scholarships: For study at any of a number of British universities.

Charles B. Rangel International Affairs:  For students entering a two-year graduate program in areas relevant to the work of the Foreign Service.  Mid-January deadline.

The Fulbright US Student Program: One-year of English teaching assistantship or study/research abroad.

The Princeton Fellowships: One-year fellowships for service oriented work in Asia, Africa or Latin America

The Gates Cambridge Scholarship: For one year of study at Cambridge University.

Jack Kent Cooke Graduate Arts Award:  Up to three years support for students pursuing graduate work in the performing or visual arts or creative writing and who have unmet financial need. 

James Madison Fellowships: For students planning to teach secondary school in American history, American government or social studies.

The National Science Foundation Fellowship: Three-year graduate research fellowships in science, mathematics, engineering, and social sciences.

The Rhodes Scholarship: For study at Oxford University.

The Truman Scholarship: Available to students in their junior year who plan to attend graduate school in preparation for careers in government, education, or other forms of public service.  Apply your junior year.  Campus deadline, January 2014.
