Kalamazoo College's ACUPCC Timeline


  • November 12: ACUPCC Implementation Profile submitted. The College committed to initiating two specified tangible action options to reduce greenhouse gases within the two years after their implementation start date. 
    • Tangible Action 2 - Adopt an energy-efficient appliance purchasing policy requiring purchase of ENERGY STAR certified products in all areas for which such ratings exist.
    • Tangible Action 7 - Participate in the Waste Minimization component of the national RecycleMania competition, and adopt 3 or more associated measures to reduce waste.


  • October: 2008-2009 Climate Commitment Planning Committee (CCPC) have first meeting.



  • January: Kalamazoo College Sustainability and Climate Action Plan (SCAP) submitted to ACUPCC and Kalamazoo College community.
  • November: Biennial Greenhouse Gas Audit conducted as required by AUCPCC. The audit was conducted for the two previous years (fiscal years 2008-2009 and 2009-2010) and found that the college had successfully reduced its emissions every year. The total reduction in annual emissions amounted to 1,420 metric tons of CO2 equivalent, representing a 10% decrease in only two years.


  • April: Progress report submitted documenting the GHG reductions achieved over the past four years as a result of the college's energy efficiency retrofit projects, energy efficiency building standard, and the efforts of staff and students.
