Research Request Process

The research request process has a formal and informal component. Research staff will take requests by phone, email, and in-person for you convenience. A formal request form is also available as detailed below. 

To make a request, contact research staff or fill out the Research Request form.

  • Prospect Research staff will review the form with the requesting staff member and fill in areas where more information is needed. We'll also review with the development officer what it is they already know about the prospect – vacation homes, family, company info, etc.
  • Prospect Research staff will research the prospect and report findings in Colleague - recorded in the Financials section of Major Donors.For select requests, a Word document in the standard profile format can be generated. These are stored in the research reports directory in I:\DEVELOPMENT\RESEARCH\Research Reports Directory
  • Prospect Research staff will notify the requestor of when the research is complete and available for their review.
  • Requests for research should be made before prospect related travel. Only under limited circumstances will prospect research profiles be emailed to major gift officers while traveling. In these rare cases, the document will be sent in a secure manner.
  • Any research profiles that are printed must be shredded when done using. Printed research profiles must be handled in a secure and confidential manner. Do not leave copies at meetings, in hotel rooms, etc. Any research materials that leave the Advancement office must be brought back and shredded or returned to Prospect Research staff.
