2018 Summer Housing

Summer housing may be extended to students during the summer on a space-available basis.  Priority goes to those students who fit the criteria below and in the following order:

  1. Full-time paid student employees of the College.
  2. Full-time researchers working for a faculty member on a project that requires one to be on-campus for the purpose of accessing facilities and/or staff.
  3. Full-time local internship or employment.
  4. Individuals with short-term needs at the discretion of Residential Life (e.g. international travel, etc.).

Students may live on campus during the contracted dates only.

Summer housing will be available from June 16 - August 11, 2018 in Hoben Hall.  The summer residence hall closes on Saturday, August 11, 2018 at noon.  Students continuing to work full-time for the College after that date and who have a Fall on campus assignment will be permitted to move to their fall space and continue living on campus after August 11. All other students cannot be accommodated after that date and time and must plan accordingly.

Sign-Up Process

  1. All students choosing to live on campus during the summer will be required to pay a housing fee which includes $100 refundable security deposit and $90 per week room rental fee.  A representative from the Student Accounts Office will be present at the housing sign-up process to take security deposits and to answer questions.
  2. Sign-up for summer housing will take place on Thursday of 10th week, Spring quarter (June 7, 2018) from 11:00 am - 12:00 pm in Student Development
  3. Students must complete the Summer Housing Payment Form online before the summer housing process.  All payment details are on this form.
  4. Students must bring a completed Summer Housing Contract, $100 security deposit payment in cash or a check made out to Kalamazoo College, and have submitted the Summer Housing Payment Form online.  Employment may need to be verified if necessary.
  5. Most housing in Hoben will be double occupancy.  Very few single rooms will be available and will be assigned on a first come, first served basis.  Students may sign up with a specific roommate or they will be assigned a roommate.
  6. At the time of sign-up, students will indicate a specific period of consecutive weeks for summer residence and will pay for that block according to the College‚Äôs billing arrangements.  A student may spend some period of time within the block away from the room (a vacation, for example) but must pay for the entire block.  If students check out prior to the end of a full week, they will still be charged for the full week.  Accounts cannot be pro-rated by the day.
  7. Students living in the summer residence hall may cook in the Hoben community kitchen.  Dining facilites are typically not open in the summer, and students must pay cash if and when they are.
  8. Students should not skip class to sign up for summer housing.  Those who are in class during the summer housing process should stop by Student Development after class to sign up.
  9. Questions about summer housing sign up may be directed to Stephen Sanney, Director of Residential Life, 337-7520 or
  10. Questions about billing arrangements can be directed to Patrick Farmer, Student Accounts Coordinator, 337-7226 or
