Welcome! Prospective and New Students

We are so excited to share our theatre department with you. Theatre functions best when the people involved are passionate and thrilled to try new things. The fact that you are on this page proves that you are one of those people!

Choosing a college and choosing a major are big decisions. You're charting your course for the next four years and this has significant implications for your life beyond that time. Kalamazoo College is known for its emphasis on blending academics with real life experience so that when you graduate, you are confident that you're prepared for whatever might come next. The Department of Theatre Arts is an excellent example of this practice.

While the Department of Theatre Arts hosts the academic side of theatre--courses, internships, foreign study, Senior Individualized Projects--Festival Playhouse is the company whose members (students, faculty, guest artists) produce plays on campus. We have some wonderful theatres which are amazingly versatile, fostering highly creative work.

Our Department has always been committed to the pursuit of theatre that is always thoughtful and theatre that is always provocative. Our Mission is a very important part of the way that the department is run. WE encourage you to familiarize yourself with Our Mission Statement.

Students at K do not necessarily have to major or even minor to be involved--everyone is welcome. We do, however, have many double majors in areas that may surprise you. Recently students have combined their studies in Theatre Arts with a wide variety of other departments including Biology, Chemistry, Psychology, Neuroscience, Economics and Business, Philosophy, Art and Art History, Music, Chinese, French, German, and of course, English.

Check out what our current students are doing to get a glimpse of what's happening right now and what they are auditioning for at K. Then take a look at our alumni page to see where some of our students have gone after graduation (You might have even know some of their names!).
