Our Goals

Our current work in the area of Diversity and Inclusion (D&I) is informed by the vision, strategies and tactics identified in the Plan for Kalamazoo College’s Future.  Among the elements included in the vision statement is:

By 2017 Kalamazoo College will be recognized nationally and internationally as a leader in innovative education that provides students with a learning community that is residential, diverse, inclusive, student-focused, and comprehensively internationalized.

The Committee for Kalamazoo College's Future (CKCF) adopted the following goals for 2017:

  • Kalamazoo College will be an intercultural institution in which the campus community is engaged in learning across differences in a context where all cultures are afforded respect, policies and procedures are designed and implemented intentionally to foster inclusion, and cultural perspectives are incorporated into programs and policies consistent with the College’s mission and values.
  • Kalamazoo College will have a significant presence of students from international backgrounds including: matriculating students from abroad, matriculating immigrant students, exchange students, language tutors, and US students who have lived abroad for most of their lives.
  • Kalamazoo College will have an expanded national footprint with approximately half of the student body recruited from out of state.
  • Kalamazoo College will have reached the 75th percentile among the GLCA colleges with respect to racial and ethnic diversity within the student body.
  • Kalamazoo College students will have an opportunity to engage with a faculty and staff that reflect an international and multicultural flavor.
  • Kalamazoo College will strive to maintain a student body with  a gender balance within a range of no less than 45% male and no more than 55% female.
